An 87-year-old woman with dementia was tragically found dead after wandering away from her home in Mueang Chai Nat District. Despite a two-day search by her family, her body was discovered just 100 meters from her residence.

Phan Niamprayoon, who suffered from memory loss, went missing around noon on July 10 from her home in Hat Tha Sao Subdistrict. Her family immediately launched an extensive search, checking local transport hubs and police stations, but found no clues to her whereabouts. They were deeply distressed, fearing for her safety.

The devastating news came when it was confirmed that Phan was found deceased in a grassy area by the roadside, only 100 meters from her home. The initial medical examination revealed a head wound and significant bleeding on her back, although there were no signs of a struggle. Police found all her belongings intact, including 17,843 baht (US$490) in cash, indicating that robbery was not a motive, as reported by KhaoSod.

Preliminary assumptions suggest that Phan might have wandered down a sloped roadside and slipped, hitting her head on a metal barrier. The severe heat of the day likely contributed to her condition, and she succumbed to her injuries after being unconscious for over 18 hours.

In related news, police are investigating the discovery of a man’s body found floating in a water canal in Suvarnabhumi’s Bang Phli area.

A pickup truck with a child car seat was parked nearby, and witnesses reported seeing the man sitting on a bridge the night before.

Police received a report about the incident at 3 pm on July 8. Kittiphon Poldech, an inspector from Bang Phli Police Station in Samut Prakan Province, coordinated with forensic doctors from Ramathibodi Chakri Naruebodindra Hospital and rushed to the scene, accompanied by Thannithi Assavaraksaree, Deputy Inspector of Investigations, and a rescue team from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation.
