In a tragic turn of events, a fatal car accident unfolded on the Chon Buri motorway, claiming the lives of a Malaysian man and two Chinese nationals. The incident, which occurred on March 3rd, shook the community and brought attention to the importance of road safety measures.

The Scene of the Accident

Highway Police officers and Dhamma Rassamee Foundation rescuers were swiftly dispatched to the rest area on the motorway around 10 am. Upon arrival, they encountered a harrowing sight—a white BMW 5 Series sedan had collided with a large rest area sign, resulting in significant damage to the vehicle’s front.

Tragically, the driver, identified as 32-year-old Malaysian man Lee Chin Keong, was found deceased in the driver’s seat with severe head injuries and a broken neck. Also trapped inside the vehicle were a Chinese woman, Xigoyu Ji, and her two-month-old son, Yic Heng Ma. Despite efforts to save them, the baby succumbed to his injuries at the scene, while Xigoyu later passed away in hospital due to the severity of her injuries.

Remarkably, amidst the devastation, a five-year-old Chinese girl named Yu Qing Ma was discovered outside the car with a leg injury. She was promptly transported to the hospital and reported to be in stable condition, emerging as the sole survivor of the tragic accident.

Insights into the Victims’ Lives

Further investigation into the victims’ backgrounds sheds light on the interconnectedness of their lives. Nattaporn, a 33-year-old Thai woman, revealed that she was an employee of Xigoyu Ji. The revelation paints a picture of a close-knit relationship between the victims, with Xigoyu’s husband rushing from China to Thailand upon learning of the accident.

Nattaporn further disclosed that Xigoyu and her family resided in Thailand, where they operated a shipping business based in Chon Buri. The unfortunate incident occurred as Xigoyu was returning home after taking her son for a vaccination, highlighting the unpredictability of life’s tragedies.

Possible Causes and Speculations

Eyewitnesses at the scene reported seeing a pickup truck driving against traffic, prompting speculation about its involvement in the accident. However, despite efforts to corroborate these accounts through CCTV footage, authorities were unable to locate the alleged pickup truck.

Police suspected that the Malaysian driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel, underscoring the importance of driver vigilance and adherence to road safety protocols. Additionally, locals in the area cited previous incidents of motorists driving against traffic at the rest area, highlighting a potential contributing factor to the accident.

In conclusion, the tragic car accident on the Chon Buri motorway serves as a stark reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of road safety measures. As the community mourns the loss of lives and grapples with the aftermath of the incident, there is a collective call for increased vigilance and adherence to traffic regulations.

Efforts to prevent similar tragedies in the future must be intensified, with a focus on educating drivers, enhancing enforcement measures, and improving infrastructure to mitigate risks on the road. As we reflect on this heartbreaking incident, let us honor the memory of the victims by advocating for safer roads and fostering a culture of responsibility among all road users.
