Police in Songkhla province have seized more than 1 million methamphetamine (meth) pills and 400 grams of crystal meth (Ice), valued at over 30 million baht. The suspects, linked to a significant drug distribution network, have a history of serious criminal activity.

The major drug bust was announced at a press conference held at the provincial police headquarters. Deputy Commissioner of Region 9 Police, Nitinae Langyanai, and Deputy Governor of Songkhla province, Sawet Phetnoi, revealed the details of the operation. Among the seized items were 1,269,000 meth pills and 400 grams of Ice, with a total estimated value exceeding 30 million baht.

Timeline of the Operation

The initial arrest occurred on Wednesday, July 10, when the investigative team from Singhanakhon Police Station apprehended Niwat Nuwong, 43, and Chanon Phanthong, 36. The suspects were found with 2,616 meth pills. Further investigation led to the discovery of additional drugs hidden near the home of another suspect, Bantheng Suksawat.

On the following day, Ranot Police Station’s investigative team conducted a background check on Bantheng, uncovering his involvement in drug distribution in the Ranot district. Although Bantheng was not at his residence, a search revealed 400 grams of Ice and 1,269,000 meth pills hidden in eight fertilizer sacks behind the house.

Statements from Authorities

“Our investigation confirmed that Bantheng and Niwat were collaborating in distributing Ice and meth as part of the same network. Both suspects have previous arrests for drug-related offenses and have been implicated in multiple murder cases across different regions, some still under trial,” Nitinae stated.

“Today’s seizure underscores our relentless efforts to dismantle drug networks and protect our communities from the devastating impact of narcotics.”

“This significant seizure highlights our commitment to combating drug trafficking in the region. The collaboration between different police units and the dedication of our officers have led to this successful operation. We will continue to pursue and dismantle these dangerous networks to ensure the safety of our communities.”

Impact on Public Safety

The suspects have been charged with jointly distributing category 1 narcotics (Ice and meth) with the intent to sell. This act is considered a threat to state security and public safety. The authorities stressed that the distribution of such large quantities of drugs not only endangers the health and well-being of individuals but also contributes to a rise in crime and violence within the community.

Community Response

Residents have expressed relief at the success of the operation. Many have noted the increasing drug problem in the area and are hopeful that this major bust will lead to a decrease in drug-related crimes. Community leaders have also praised the police for their diligent work and have called for continued efforts to address the root causes of drug trafficking.

Future Actions

The police have stated that this operation is part of a larger, ongoing effort to combat drug trafficking in the region. They have vowed to continue their investigations and to work closely with other law enforcement agencies to track down and prosecute all individuals involved in this network.
