Severe Weather Alert Issued for 27 Provinces in Thailand
The Meteorological Department of Thailand (TMD) has issued a Severe Weather Alert in Thailand, forecasting thunderstorms and potential heavy rainfall across various regions.
Particularly, the eastern part of the country is anticipated to bear the brunt of the storms, with 40% of the area likely to experience intense downpours.
This warning arises due to a low-pressure area caused by intense heat enveloping the upper part of Thailand. As a result, hot to very hot weather conditions are expected, accompanied by daytime thunderstorms. The highest temperatures could reach a scorching 40 degrees Celsius, especially on April 1.
As Thailand prepares for this weather event, the TMD advises the public to take precautions to safeguard their health from the extreme heat and to remain alert to the risks posed by the thunderstorms.
Adding to the weather concerns, the accumulation of dust particles and smoke haze in the upper north, lower northeast, central regions, including Bangkok and its vicinity, and the East, remains at moderate to high levels. This is attributed to weakened winds covering these areas and poor air circulation.
Occasional thunderstorms are anticipated in various regions amidst the Severe Weather Alert in Thailand.
In the central region, temperatures are expected to be hot to very hot, accompanied by occasional thunderstorms affecting 20% of the area.
This will primarily impact provinces such as Lopburi, Saraburi, Ayutthaya, Kanchanaburi, and Ratchaburi. Nighttime temperatures will range between 25-28 degrees Celsius, while daytime highs could peak at 38-40 degrees Celsius.
Moving to the eastern region, hot weather with thunderstorms is forecasted to affect 40% of the area, particularly in provinces like Nakhon Nayok, Prachinburi, Sa Kaeo, Chachoengsao, Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat. Minimum temperatures will hover around 26-28 degrees Celsius, while highs will range between 33-38 degrees Celsius.
In the southern region (East Coast), daytime weather is expected to be hot with thunderstorms in 10% of the area, primarily impacting provinces including Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, and Nakhon Si Thammarat.
Nighttime temperatures will be 24-27 degrees Celsius, while daytime temperatures will range from 34-37 degrees Celsius.
On the west coast of the south, similar conditions are anticipated, with 10% of the area likely to experience thunderstorms, especially in provinces like Ranong, Phang Nga, and Phuket. Temperatures will range from 25-26 degrees Celsius at night to 36-38 degrees Celsius during the day.
Finally, for Bangkok and its vicinity, hot weather with isolated thunderstorms is predicted to affect 20% of the area.
Residents in these regions are urged to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions against the severe weather conditions expected to unfold.
