Sole searching: Thai man hits Buddha with flipflop after ex-wife return wish fails

A surveillance video obtained from a temple in the city of Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand recorded a heinous act as someone hit a Buddha statue with the intention of harming it. 

The man’s behavior is already a consequence of having harboured an unrequited wish.

The local resident Piyapong Sutthiphakdee, who has been active on social media exposing the lack of common sense of these people, is an example of people who are willing to fight against the behavior of the unscrupulous individuals. 

Among his arguments he secmindedly suggested to pay more attention to the feelings of others and to avoid such deeds.

Significance of the Statue

The statue which is subject of the project is the Phor Than Sang, a statue whose name denotes deep love and great respect that local community has for it. 

It was dedicated to honor his lifetime achievement as the member of the temple and it was created to indicate religiously and culturally.

In the words of Piyapong Sutthiphakdee:

“Value is subjective, but disrespect is universal; those who disrespect others forfeit their own respect.”

In the right eye of the statue, damage was seen by a keen watchers and that precipitated the matter’s deep scrutiny. Within minutes, the security camera recordings had helped the law enforcement realise the immensity of the crime, and the matter was promptly resolved.

Right after noticing the vandalism, the authorities have charged the defender, named as Nantapong “Bas” Salai, whom is 33 years old. The investigation authorities are currently engaged in search of Bas who escapes right after the murder.

It was identified that, a drug user with mental issues under the Bas category, he did so as a manifestation of his frustration due to the non-reciprocation of his desire to get his ex-wife back. 

Through the man’s character, the story conveys how social problems involving struggles with addiction and mental health affect the society overall. The news of Bas’s wrongdoings made the neighborhood people very upset and they wanted him to be made responsible for what he did.
