Phuket karaoke bar raided, operator arrested for child prostitution

The CIB managed to get a hold on Sulawana Kaitin, a 32-year-old female proprietor of a clandestine karaoke box on Rassada district, Phuket. She runs the establishment where teenagers as young as 13 years old are engaged in prostitution. The incident was an integral part of a police tactical operation that implicated therefore the demand for buying under-aged kids for sex.

In their report which was released last night, the CIB has informed that it is the only one responsible for busted of operation in a karaoke bar after their visit. They confirmed busted of prostitution involving children under 15 years of age.

The chronological date of the happening was not disclosed in the report, but yesterday was assumed to be the event’s date.

The robbed location, that was in the Rassada area under Phuket Police Station jurisdiction, was depicted on the photos sent for notification by CIB officers.

With the CIB (Cyber Crime Investigation) and ATPD (Anti Trafficking In Persons Division) emblems emblazoned on their vests and caps, a group of raiding force looked as though they were related to anything from the Phuket police force.

Karaoke bar operator who was arrested during the coordinated operation at the scene was a 39 year-old woman. The point that attracted our attention the most is the employees who are 13 and 14 years old, according to CIB highlights that their role reaching customers alongside them, drinking alcohol at the tables, and providing sexual services.

It was already set that the customers will pay 3,400 baht (US$ 90). The major share of it, 3,000 baht ($ 80), was taken home by the trafficked child and the rest, 400 baht ($ 11), as a salary for Saphawan, the owner.

The operator has, at the moment, six counts on the human trafficking and procuring of minors for sexual purposes. She was subsequently handed over Division 5 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Division for legal proceedings, as per the CIB report, The Phuket News engine wrote.

Therefore, both the authorities and the attention of the media have yet to be drawn to the public who were participants in the karaoke bar sing together. Besides that, almost no actions from supervisors who let the site operate illegally in Rassada were taken.

That Phuket Province police choose to keep quiet the revelation of the raid has not been disclosed either.
